Some good infomation from a friend from hyderabad.
Goa trip was one of the most memorable experiences and feel I should share it with folks for your benefit. A quick read about best places to visit in goa for a budget traveller.
- A bus from Hyderabad to panjim wasn't a bad journey at all.
- Reached panjim bus stand, had breakfast at Udipi café nearby. Service is real slow because of general rush, but food is good.
- Hired a bike from the stand besides panjim bus stand.
o The hiring rates differ from day to day based on the tourists rush and bikes. Rs. 300 for pulsar etc.
o 250/300 rs is 1 day charge you need to give the money in advance for the number of days u wish to keep the bike.
o Petrol charges to be paid by you. U also need to submit a scanned copy of driv lic. Make sure you get all the bike papers.
o Helmet is not needed for driving inside city, but is a must if you are planning to drive in highways.
- Went to assagao, and checked in Hotel Astoria. A really good value for money hotel. I paid 500rs per day. Hot water + amazing food. ,
Quite a few beaches/forts Anjuna, vagator, baga, calagunte etc are just a few mins drive from there.
- Anjuna beach is quite rocky and is not recommended for swimming. But yes there are quite a few roadside shops just before anjuna beach. And have some excellent
collection. ,
- Next day visited chapora fort. I believe few scenes of DCH were shot there. , ,
- Amazing view of the vagator/small vagator beaches. , , . You can take a less travelled route to vagator beaches by trekking down from fort top.
- Vagator is a very good beach and would recommend visiting there compared to baga which is usually very crowded. Had a ginormous breakfast for 70 rs in one of the shacks there.
- Enjoyed swimming and spending time in the beach. You can even get a surfboard for 100rs for an hour and have more fun. .
- In the evening went to the mapusa market (Friday). I dunno why the market is famous, I was not able to notice anything that stands out.
- Next day visited baga and calagunte beaches. Baga is a very commercial/crowded place. Lots of hotels are also besides baga. You also have various water sports activities there so is
good fun and timepass. I was lucky that the weather was absolutely brilliant and setting sun provided a wonderful photo op. , , ,
, . Parasailing+speedboat charges comes to around 500/600rs per person. Again depends on rush and bargaining. Had dinner at one of the shacks there.
Again a small note: Cards are not accepted in any of the shacks. So you have to carry cash or go to the nearest atm which is 5 mins drive from the beach.
- While returning back I would definitely recommend going to Ingo’s market. A must visit place. Very good place to shop some funky designer items and get a sense of international goan crowd.
- Next day visited Miramar beach , , Swimming is not allowed in this beach. But it’s a good watch.
- In all this hectic visiting – it suddenly dawned on me that the return tickets I have was a tatkal ticket from londa to hyd (booked 2 days b4 leaving J). Was absolutely clueless abt where
londa was and anyways returned the bike at panjim bus stand, took a local bus from there to some village near londa. , . A word of caution this route is not for the
faint hearted. Amazing views and dangerous roads. I saw two accidents happen just in front of me. An amazing 4.5 hr ride and am sure you will be so freaked out that u will be sitting at the
edge of ur seat on whole route. J Forget about catching a nap in that route. Reached the village forgot its name got a ride in a taxi jeep and reached londa station.
- Londa to hyd train journey was breeze. Travelling in a sleeper train after 2 years was a welcome change. It’s a different experience altogather. Costed just 500rs.
That’s it J. Hopefully people can benefit from this brief trip report. - what a wonderful place goa is !
